Welcome Coach Sophia Theriot: Freshmen Volleyball’s Newest Leader

We are excited to announce that Sophia Theriot will be joining our team as the new Freshmen Volleyball Coach. With a rich background in both playing and coaching volleyball, Sophia is poised to make a significant impact on our program.

Sophia was born and raised in San Diego, where her athletic journey began on the soccer field. A State Cup-winning soccer player, she discovered her passion for volleyball at the age of 12. She excelled in the sport during her time at La Costa Canyon High School, playing Varsity Volleyball for three seasons and achieving recognition as a CIF Open Division Finalist. In her final U18 season with Coast Volleyball Club, she earned notable accolades, including a 1st place finish in SoCal and a 5th place finish in the Open Division at Nationals.

Her college career began at Marist College, where she made a remarkable impact as a freshman. Sophia was named to the South Bay Battle All-Tournament team, earned MAAC Libero of the Week honors four times, and was selected for the MAAC All-Rookie team. Seeking to be closer to home, she transferred to the University of Southern California in 2020. At USC, she served as the starting libero and played a key role in the team’s success. After a productive year in the Division I program, Sophia transitioned to club volleyball, culminating her USC career with her team winning the 2023 NCVF Open Division National Championship and earning a spot on the Division One All-Tournament 1st Team.

Since graduating from USC with a major in Psychology and a minor in Occupational Science, Sophia has returned to San Diego, where she has been coaching at Coast and Canyon Crest Academy. Her coaching philosophy extends beyond developing physical skills; she is dedicated to fostering mental resilience in her players. Sophia is passionate about helping athletes build confidence, handle high-pressure situations, and maintain consistency on the court.

In her free time, Sophia enjoys painting, baking, playing beach volleyball, and spending time with friends. She is also an advocate for mental health, reflecting her commitment to supporting players both on and off the court.

We are thrilled to welcome Coach Sophia Theriot to our program and look forward to the positive influence she will bring to our Freshmen Volleyball team.
